Cooking pots

The clays used to make pots and pans used to heat and cook food were refractory and able to withstand sudden changes in temperature.

The clays found in the Basque Country were unsuitable, so potters used to bring in articles made in Muelas del Pan and Pereruela, in the province of Zamora, and Nava del Rey and Arrabal de Portillo, in the province of Valladolid. These articles were received after being fired only once and they were either glassed or enamelled here and fired once again.
