Water transport and storage

This section includes jugs and jars of different shapes and sizes. They were all used either to transport or store water when there was no running water and it was obtained from streams and other natural sources.

A singular item was used to transport water in the Basque Country. It is called pegarra, pedarra or kantarue, depending on the area. It was a large jug primarily used in the Pyrenees and the local women used to carry them on their heads on top of a cushion.
